Why book this tour: An exceptional birding tour to observe many of the Island endemics while exploring the Important Bird Area of the Laurel forest with an excellent value for money. The best tour if your objective is to watch the terrestrial endemic species: Madeira Firecrest and Laurel pigeon. We have added a few more interesting spots to complement your bird sightings. Areas and localities: The tour takes place on the Eastern end of the Island, between the valley of Machico and the Important Bird Area of São Lourenço Peninsula, east of the fishing Village of Caniçal. The Boat trip gives a perspective of the entire São Lourenço Peninsula coast. Sightseeing: Possibility to enjoy the southeastern coast landscape between Funchal and Caniçal. Target birds: Berthelot’s pipit, Canary, Madeiran Grey Wagtail, Macaronesian Kestrel, Rock Sparrow, Macaronesian Rock pigeon, Northwest African Quail, Spanish Sparrow, Hoopoe, Common Tern, Waxbill, Yellow-legged Seagull, Linet, Goldfinch. Tour Tips: warm clothes, comfortable outdoor shoes, hat, sunscreen and water should always be taken to the activity. Motion sickness pills for the rib boat trip. Vertigo, Claustrophobia & Motion Sickness: No narrow trails, drops or constricted tunnels. Boat trip may cause sickness. Anti-motion sickness pills are advised. WC Stop & Coffee Break: Yes, before and after the birdwatching boat trip at Quinta do Lorde. Coffee included (choice between espresso, American coffee, white coffee. Please mind that Cappuccino, Mocha, Irish coffee or any other special coffees are not included). Tea is also available.
