The Pico Ruivo Viewpoint is located in is at the highest point of Madeira, to 1862 meters. This is the third highest point in Portugal. It is only accessible by footpath from the Pico do Areeiro (PR1 Vereda do Areeiro Hiking Trail) or PR1.2 Achada do Teixeira in Santana. This viewpoint overlooks various locations as: Curral das Freiras, the various localities of Santana. It also offers extensive views of the Ponta de São Lourenço, the Paul da Serra plateau, Porto Santo Island or Desertas Islands depending on weather conditions.
